The residents of Vintage Hills traveled to the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum at Camp Dodge in Johnston on this blustery February day. Of the eight residents who joined us, four were former Veterans of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The Iowa Gold Star Military Museum, Iowa’s premier veteran’s museum, displays artifacts and tells the story of Iowa veterans from the Mexican War of 1846 to present day. Neal, a former Air Force pilot, was able to see a replica plane of the type he flew. He was also able to sit in a flight simulator and reminisce what it was like to fly those planes. Jerry, a former Navy soldier enjoyed the display on the bombing of Pearl Harbor. What a wonderful way to spend a cold February day!
